Motorcycle Accident With Injuries And Fire

At 1133 this morning Companies 85 & 650 were dispatched to the intersection of Grings Hill Rd & Gelsinger Rd for a reported Motorcycle accident with unknown injuries.  While en route units were advised 2nd call received reporting motorcycle operator to be down on  the ground injured and the other vehicle is reported to now be on fire. Chief 85 arrived on scene and reported the motorcycle operator down on the roadway conscious with head and leg injuries and a pickup into a tree with the engine compartment well involved.  Police and Spring Twp road crew were able to knock down the fire with extinguishers. The crew from the Rescue/Engine split up to make sure the fire was completely out and assisted EMS with pt packaging.  Fire Police assisted with traffic control.


 
   
   
Accident with Entrapment Assisting Co#79

Just before 1900 on Saturday evening Companies 650,79 and Rescue 85 were dispatched to the 600bl of Park Road South in Wyomissing for a reported vehicle on its side with entrapment which was called in by Western Berks EMS Medic 650-1 who came upon the accident scene en route to RHMC with a Trauma pt on board.  Crews from 79 & 85 stabilized the vehicle flapped the roof and extricated the single occupant from the vehicle,who was then transported the RHMC Trauma Center a block away by Western Berks EMS.


 
   
   
Another working fire in Sinking Spring

At about 2330 last night crews from Co. 18, 85, and 36 RIT were dispatched to the 4200 block of Penn Avenue in the borough of Sinking Spring for a reported structure fire. Upon response units were notified that multiple calls were received and reported possibly with entrapment. Crews arrived on location and confirmed a working fire. Fire was evident from the second story widow on the B/C corner of the building involving the rear porch. Crews stretched an initial attack line through the B side and made there way to the second floor. Crews made a quick knock on the bulk of the fire. Ladder 18's crew made access to the roof and completed ventilation operations. Additional crews arrived and assisted with overhaul throughout the structure.

A-Platoon is kept busy with 5 Calls between 0930 and 1630

The A-Platoon along with the Volunteers staffing the 85 House were kept busy running a total of five calls between 0930 and 1630.   The 1st call of the day came in at 0942 for a reported accident with injuries on Rt 724 near Lowes.  Rescue/Engine 85-1 arrived and found a 2-vehicle rear end collision with one injury.  Assisted EMS with a backboard extrication and Fire Police assisted PD with traffic control.     At 1046 Companies 85 and 42 were dispatched to Rt 222 N/B in the area of Mohns Hill Rd for a reported vehicle smoking.  Engine 42-1 reported a working fire upon arrival and began fire attack.  Rescue/Engine 85-1 arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul.  Spring and Cumru Twp. Fire Police assisted with traffic control .  At 1255 the Company was dispatched to Old Lancaster Pike for a medical assist to Southern Berks Medic 680-5 who were covering for Western Berks (650).  Later in the day at 1500 Companies 85 and 79 were dispatched to Century Blvd for a Commercial Fire Alarm.   The last call for the day was for a Motor vehicle accident with injuries on Rt 222 S/B at Broadcasting Road.   2 vehicle rear end collision.  The crew from the Rescue/Engine assisted EMS and applied oil dry to the fluids down and cleaned up debris.  Fire Police assisted with traffic control.

Car vs Parked Motor Home

At 1819 Company 85 and 650 Station#3 were dispatched to Eisenhower Court for a reported accident with injuries.  Chief 85 arrived on scene and found a 2-vehicle accident Car vs Parked Motor home.   Driver of the car had minor injuries.  Crew from Rescue/Engine 85-1 began pt care until the arrival of EMS and secured the propane tanks on the motor home.  Fire Police assisted with traffic and crowd control. 


 
   
   
West Lawn UMC Peach Festival

Today from 1600-2000 the C-Platoon along with Chief 85,Deputy 85 and Firefighters Adams and Delorenzo assisted Fire Prevention Lt. Stoudt with a Public Relations event at the Annual West Lawn UMC Peach Festival.  Wyomissing FD also participated and brought there Fire Prevention Robot "Patches" and Tower 79.  Crews assisted Lt Stoudt with the Fire Prevention Trailer and gave tours of the apparatus and the children enjoyed interacting with "Patches"

Special thanks to the West Lawn United Methodist Church for inviting us to participate and for the Free Food that was provided  to all the Emergency Services that participated.


 
   
   
Working Fire in Sinking Spring Boro

Co. 18, Co. 85 for an Engine and Co. 85 for RIT dispatched to the 3400 block of Penn Avenue for a reported structure fire.

Chief 18 placed responding and additional reported multiple calls, fire through the roof. RE 85-1 was available on radio and responded immediately to the scene. Chief 85 placed enroute and confirmed a working fire with smoke showing from a few blocks out.

RE 85-1 arrived on location and secured a water supply. Crews stretched an 1 3/4" attack line to the rear of the structure and gained entry to the building. L 18 arrived and set up for operations on Side A. Crews made access to the roof and started opening up above the fire. Interior crews accessed division 2 and reported heavy fire in division 3.

Chief 18 requested additional crews to respond to the scene from 79 and 64. All crews were put to work to some capacity. Co. 47 (Womelsdorf) was requested for RIT.  All units held on location until initial investigation was completed.

Two firefighters were evaluated by EMS (Western Berks Ambualance) due to the high heat weather.

Companies placed available and returned to their respectable stations in just under 2 1/2 hours from dispatch.

Two Vehicle Crash With Six Injuires

At 1610 Companies 85 and 650 Station#1 were dispatched to the intersection of Paprmill and Broadcasting Road for a vehicle accident with injuries and possible confinement.  Captain 85-2 (Burns) arrived on scene and reported no confinement but had at least six Pt's with minor injuries.  The crew from Rescue/Engine 85-1 assisted Western Berks EMS with six backboard extrication's. Fire Police assisted with traffic control.


 
   
   
Congradulations to Spring Township PD for another successful National Night Out

Once again Spring Township PD had a successful/well attended National Night Out held at the Lincoln Park Pool. The large crowd enjoyed the free food that was provided by businesses in Spring Township. There were also demonstrations and static displays of Police Cars, Ambulances and Fire Apparatus and free swimming.


 
   
   
Accident with Injuries at the intersection of Wyoming Dr & Meadow Ct.

At 0936 Companies 85 & 650 were dispatched to Wyoming Dr and Meadow Ct. for a reported accident with unknown injuries.  Rescue/Engine 85-1 arrived and found a 2-vehicle accident.  The crew from Rescue/Engine 85-1 assisted EMS with two backboard extrication's. Diesel Fuel Spill on Route 222

At 2038 the Company was dispatched to Route 222 S/B in the area of Rt 724 at the request of the Police for a pickup leaking Diesel Fuel onto the roadway. Rescue/Engine 85-1 arrived on scene and found a large amount of Diesel Fuel down on the roadway approx 60gals.   Crews began to apply oil dry to contain the spill and the spill trailer was requested from Company#36 to assist with containing the fuel still leaking from the tank. Units remained on scene until 2325.


 
   
   
Vehicle Roll Over on Sweitzer Rd

At 1725 Company 85 and 650 were dispatched to Van Reed & Prendergast Rd's for a reported accident with unknown injures, reported vehicle rolled over. While en route units were advised the actual location was in Lower Heidelberg Twp. on Sweitzer Rd.  Rescue/Engine 85-1 continued in and found a small SUV rolled onto its side with no injuries.  The crew from the Rescue/Engine controlled the fluids down and D/C the battery and remained on scene until released by Deputy 18.


 
   
   
Vehicle Accident Papermill Rd & Broadcasting Sq.Drive

At 1726 Companies 85 & 650 Station#1 were dispatched to Papermill & Broadcasting Roads for a reported accident with injuries.  PD arrived and found the accident to be at the above location and not were it was originally reported.  Chief 85 arrived on scene and reported at least three minor injuries along with fluids and debris on the roadway.   E-83-3 was released from the AFA that they were on in 79's area and responded.  Rescue/Engine 85-1 originally responded but was cancelled by Chief 85 due to Engine 85-3 being closer.  Oil Dry was applied to the fluids down and debris was removed from the roadway.  Fire Police assisted Spring Twp. PD with traffic control.


 
   
   
Vehicle Fire On Telford Ave

At 1916 the Company was dispatched to the area of Penn Ave & Telford Ave for a reported vehicle fire. Deputy 85-3 and Chief 85 arrived on scene and found the fire to be out.  Fire was contained to the interior center console and extinguished by the vehicle owner prior to the arrival of the Fire Dept. Chief 85 held the assignment to the Rescue/Engine.
